February 18, 2009
 
The meeting was called to order by Dr. Pam Bumstead at 5:07 p.m. in the library. Those members present were: chair Dr. Bumstead, Mrs. Michelle Heindrichs, Ms. Liz Holtzman, Mrs. Paul Bedford, Dr. Veronica Turk, Ms. Mary Tate, Mrs. Kriss Helverson, Mrs. Sharon Cooper, Mrs. Marci Gettis and principal Dr. Benita Stephens. A quorum was present.
 
There were no citizen comments.
 
Changes to the by-laws were discussed including changing the quorum number for taking votes, the number of volunteers on the committee and communication of the council.
1)      Currently the by-laws read that “eight staff representatives and eight parent/community representatives will be selected to the new council.” It was recommended to read: No more than eight.
2)      Currently the by-laws read that “if the majority quorum is not present, discussion may take place, but no vote will be taken. One-half of the members will constitute a majority.” It was recommended to read: Members in attendance may discuss and vote on decisions for the committee. No quorum is necessary.
3)      Currently the by-laws read that “An advisory council notebook, kept in the library, will contain permanent copies of all minutes, extra copies of the most current set to include the upcoming agenda, and a suggestion envelope for any ideas or concerns written. It was recommended to read: All advisory council documents will be located on the school webpage including minutes of the meeting, the current meeting agenda and the by-laws.
 
Mrs. Helverson motioned to accept the changes and Mrs. Heindricks seconded. The unanimous motion carried to change the by-laws as recommended.
 
Since the vice chair position was open. Nominations were taken to fill the vacant position. Mrs. Bedford volunteered for the position and was voted to take that position.
 
Members of the PTSO joined the PAC committee for Dr. Stephens’ presentation of the budget for next year. Questions were asked and answered about intramural versus competitive sports and ISS/Saturday School which will remain.
 
Members were reminded about the next meeting on April 22 in the Potomac Middle School library. The meeting was adjourned at 5:42 p.m.

Principal’s Advisory Council (PAC) Meeting Minutes
February 27, 2008
Potomac Middle School Library
 
The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Dr. Pam Bumstead. Those members present for the meeting were Dr. Benita Stephens, principal; Dr. Pam Bumstead, chairperson; Ms. Michelle Heindrichs, Ms. Cheryl Conley, Ms. Marcie Gettis, Mrs. Kriss Helverson, Ms. Liz Holtzman, Mrs. Marianela Tomlin, LTC Wes Tucker and Dr. Veronica Turk. Absent were Mr. Ted Rosiak, Ms. Victoria Kelson, Mr. Marvin Richardson and Ms. Ashley Catlett.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m. The next meeting will be Dec. 19, 2007 in the Potomac Middle School Library at 5 p.m.
Dr. Stephens asked for any comments or recommendations to the School Improvement Plan. There were none. She also provided current enrollment figures for Potomac Middle School. For the 2007-08 school year, there are 372 sixth graders, 356 seventh graders and 306 eighth graders. The capacity for the school is 1,200 students. Projected enrollment for 2008-09 is expected to be 1,049.
She also indicated that after schools are finished being built in 2011, the current plan is to build additions onto existing buildings at the middle school level. Additional wings would be added giving extra spec and raising the capacity to 1,600 students at PTMS.
The PTMS Crisis Management Plan was presented by head of security, Adam Hoffman. Dr. Stephens added that bomb threat checks are now being done by an internal team of administrators rather than through the use of community resources.
A copy of the discipline plan was handed out to all present. Everyone is asked to review the plan and be prepared to give comments regarding addition, correction or change at the April meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, 2008, in the Potomac Middle School Library.
