Dear Lady Panthers and Parents,

Your child has shown an interest in the Girls’ Soccer Team at Potomac Middle School. Tryouts will begin on Tuesday April 6, 2010 and the final team will be selected after tryouts on April 8th, 2010.  I will choose approximately 17 students for the team because of our supply of uniforms and so that players have a better opportunity to play in the game.

All candidates after having a physical exam on file will go through the same try out procedures. Prior experience for the game of soccer and an understanding of the rules are not prerequisites. The girls will be evaluated in the following areas:

  • Running endurance and speed
  • Ball control while dribbling and trapping
  • Passing and shooting technique and accuracy
  • Supporting other players on the field
  • Marking up of opponents
  • Vision to create a play or open up space on the field
  • Most of all attitude, cooperation, and effort

Try outs will begin immediately after school and end at 5:00 PM each day. All of the girls must either have transportation provided at 5:00 PM or take the activity bus home.  Please be prompt in picking up your child.  Potomac Middle School students are not allowed to walk home.

If selected for the team, your child will be expected to stay daily until 5:00 PM for practice.  On home game days she is also expected to help out with equipment storage.  In the event that there are any exceptions to the schedule or practice days, the coach will give as much advance notice as possible. The school will provide the uniform, but your child must be equipped with her own cleats and shin guards. A schedule of games will be provided to each team member along with other important information on our first practice day which is April 9th, 2010.  The season will continue until June 4th, 2010

If you have any questions or concerns regarding tryouts for the girls’ soccer team, please feel free to contact me at Bergergy@PWCS.edu or between 8:15AM and 9:10 AM at 703-221-4996 #323. Thank you for your support!

                                                                              Sincerely,

     Ms. Bergeron

Expectations Of Each Soccer Player Include The Following:

  • Players are encouraged to maintain good academic and conduct standards.
  • Players are expected to report all injuries to the coach so first aid can be administered.
  • Players are expected to take care of the equipment issued to them. Practice and game gear are to be returned at the end of the season. If equipment is lost, students/parents are responsible to pay for the cost of the gear. Game uniforms are not to be used as PE clothes.
  • Players will be responsible for providing their own water, shin guards, and cleats during the season.
  • Players should be picked up at 5 P.M. after each day of practice. Players should be picked up at approximately 6:00 P.M. after home games and 6:30 after away games.
  • I strongly recommend that all members of the team travel to and from an away contest on the bus. However, the coach can release a player to their parents or guardians by signing out on the roster clipboard.
  • Players are expected to make all practices and games.  If a player misses practice because of a punishment, this will be counted as an unexcused absence.
